Maranatha Fast
According to the prophecies, we are in a unique historical season. Since 1900, the global stage has been set for everything announced by the prophets, Jesus, and the Apostles to be fulfilled with the same literal interpretation as the things announced for the first coming of the Son of God.
After nearly two thousand years, Israel is back in its land, Jerusalem is the focus of the nations, and the geopolitical map is taking the form that Daniel and Ezekiel prophesied it would take in the last hour.
Jesus and Paul were emphatic about the importance of the generation before the glorious return of Jesus being prepared to overcome the coming dynamics and keep the faith until the end.
Jesus said that there has never been a period like this in history (Matt. 24:21) and that during this season many of His followers would be deceived, lose faith, grow cold in love, and end up betraying other Christians (Matt. 24:9-12).
Paul warned that whoever thinks to be standing firm should be careful not to fall because a great apostasy was coming (2 Thess. 2:3; 1 Tim. 4:1).
Over 50 times, the New Testament uses expressions alluding to this necessary preparation for its readers, such as "watch, be ready, prepare, be vigilant, be sober, gird up your loins, wait, know the season," among others. Time and again the appeal is that we cannot underestimate the need to be ready for the most intense time in history. And I don't know if you have ever stopped to think that we could have been born in another era, but God in His sovereignty, when He created us, thought of us for this time.
For this time we have come! (Esther 4:14)
From the beginning, at every stage in history, people have responded to the call to give birth in partnership with God and His plans. Each of them is now a great cloud of witnesses, waiting for us to run the race's final leg and complete the edification that has been carried out for centuries. Therefore, during these three weeks, we will engage in this fast to prepare our body, soul, and spirit (1 Thess. 5:23) to meet the expectations placed upon this generation.
We will focus on what Jesus prophesied in Mark 2:20: "But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days." Our fast is not a cry for something but for Someone. Jesus associated fasting with mourning (Matt. 9:15). This fast is an expression from a generation that says: "We are mourning because our Beloved is not physically among us. We are not satisfied with seeing Him in part nor with the current state of things. And we know that the only One who can eradicate sin and bring everlasting righteousness is Jesus, upon His coming to establish His Kingdom (Dan. 9:24)."
This fast will also be a spiritual preparation for the conference Intimacy with the Beloved. We believe that this gathering will seal this time, leading to a powerful moment like the one described in Acts 13. Together we will minister to the Lord, and the Holy Spirit will mark us to understand the generation we belong to and for us to occupy our place in the plan. These will be three key directions of this fasting:
-
PREPARATION: Awakening and preparing ourselves for the end times and the dynamics preceding Christ's return.
-
REVELATION: Growing in the revelation of the Person of Christ and His plan for the end times.
-
ACTION: Occupying our place as priests, worshipping, and interceding together in the community. We will have BETANIA (our prayer room) seven days a week, where we will join the Great Intercessor to contend for the prophecies of these times.
During these twenty-one days, the prayer room will be open at the following times:
-
Monday to Thursday: 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM
-
Friday: 24 hours (from Friday 8:00 AM to Saturday 8:00 AM)
-
Saturday: 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM
-
Sunday: 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM (online only)
*Please note that all times are in Argentina Time
TYPES OF FASTING
Before discussing the different types of fasting, it is important to understand why this spiritual discipline is important. First, it's important to remember that Jesus, in the Sermon on the Mount, assumed that we would fast (Matthew 6:16-18).
Fasting brings several benefits to our entire being. Here are some of them:
-
It transforms natural hunger into spiritual hunger.
-
It weakens the flesh and strengthens the spirit.
-
It develops self-control. He who can resist cravings and say no to food prepares himself to resist anything else.
The first five days of fasting are often the most challenging. We may feel weak, tempted to give up, and convinced that we won't succeed. However, if we persevere, we will notice that as the days go by, we gain mental clarity, feel more alert, and our spiritual senses become more sensitive.
For these reasons, fasting is an essential tool when it comes to preparing ourselves. For the end-times Church, this discipline will not be an option but a necessity.
FOOD FASTS:
-
Partial Fast: This involves abstaining from one or more meals per day or from certain foods you particularly enjoy.
-
Daniel Fast: This type of fast consists of consuming vegetables, legumes, fruits, and vegetables (primarily avoiding dairy, meats, and flour).
-
Liquid Fast: This fast allows for the consumption of vegetable and fruit juices, providing sufficient energy to sustain the fast for several days. If you have any health concerns, it is essential to consult with a doctor before embarking on this type of fast. We only recommend this fast to individuals who specifically receive guidance from God to do so; otherwise, it may weaken you for the spiritual purposes of preparation, revelation, and action.
DISTRACTIONS:
This is a key time to eliminate everything that distracts or makes us lose focus. Therefore, in addition to fasting from food, we can also abstain from social media, TV series, movies, or other distractions.
Our purpose goes beyond simply abstaining from food or distractions. It's about creating a space to pray and fill
ourselves with His Word.
PLEASURES:
These twenty-one days are also an opportunity to offer hobbies or activities that we love to do, as an offering to the
Lord.
Whatever type of fast you choose, we recommend "turning off" everything that could be a distraction and taking time
to pray and read the Word. We should be aware that whenever we set our hearts to seek God, there will be
opposition, and things to make us give up might arise.
Regarding children, we can invite them to join If they want to fast, they can abstain from watching television, using
electronic devices, eating sweets, or other activities, thus investing that time in praying together. It is NOT
recommended to restrict meals or food groups for them.
As the MISION family, we will provide resources, such as prayer guides, which help us, to be in the same direction
and meditate on His Word for each point for which we will be praying. As we mentioned, we will also have our
Betania prayer room both on-site and online (through our YouTube Channel, MiSion CEM), which will help you
stay informed and prepared to get involved in this call of the Spirit.
(Regardless of the type of fast you choose, we recommend consulting your primary care doctor or a professional
nutritionist, to ensure the chosen method is appropriate for your physical condition.)
IDEAS FOR ORGANIZING YOUR FAST
-
Choose the foods you will abstain from. Here are two examples:
-
Fast from solid foods every day until 6 PM, and then eat normally until bedtime. Repeat this for 21 days.
-
Follow the Daniel Fast for the entire 21 days.
-
-
Decide which distractions and pleasures you will eliminate during these three weeks (for example): get off social
media, and avoid watching series, movies, or similar forms of entertainment during the fast.
-
Determine which Bible passages you will be meditating on (for example, the book of Ruth and Esther, the
Sermon on the Mount – Matthew 5-7, Matthew 24 and 25, Revelation, Isaiah 24-27, Jeremiah 30-33,
Psalms 73-83, etc.).
-
Choose a book to read that will edify you and, if possible, finish it during these twenty-one days.
-
Download the daily intercession guide that we will be sharing through the MiSion YouTube channel, in the
Betania broadcast. Take on your role as a priest and contend for each of these topics.
